Chris and Helen were blessed with the perfect winter's day for their December wedding.
In the beginning
"I knew from our first few dates that Helen was very special," says Chris, who met her through a mutual friend. "She's smart, independent, gorgeous and makes me laugh all the time." After two years together, Chris decided to make it official by proposing on the day they moved into their new home.
The outfits
Helen wore a silk and chiffon gown, which she bought from The Wedding Shop in Colchester. "It was an Audrey Hepburn-style dress which was simple and stunning," she says. "Amazingly I found it in the first shop I went into. I did try a few other shops, but this style was always at the back of my mind and I knew I'd found 'the one'."

Your choice of venue will be important in determining the overall style or mood of your celebration," says Sarah Haywood, author of The Wedding Bible (Wedding Bible Company, £30). "You are likely to be drawn to venues that you think can create your day in the style and manner you have in mind." Which is why avid sports fans across the region jump at the chance to hold their day at their favourite footie club's ground; it not only sets a fun, relaxed tone for the day, but the couple can really go to town with the theme by using the team's colour scheme and naming tables after star players. What's more, many clubs are being granted wedding ceremony licences, which means you can have your entire day under one roof.
We've found some great sporting venues around the region that hold civil ceremonies and receptions. To see our pick of great sporting venues, see pages 23-26 of the current issue.

Last year our Wedding of the Year competition was a huge success - readers from all over the county entered for their chance to be crowned with the title. So this year we've decided to run the competition again; only we've upped the ante with a mini-break for two worth £1,000.
Throughout the year, we'll be looking for couples whose Essex-based weddings have taken place in 2010. Every issue we'll reveal the shortlisted couples, and readers can vote online for their favourite. The winner of each issue will go through to the final, which will be held in spring next year.
The overall winners will not only claim the all-important Wedding of the Year title, they'll also win a fantastic two night break at Dedham's luxury hotel, Maison Talbooth.
For more information and for details on how to enter, see page 59 of the current issue. |

You've booked the venue, found the dress and spent months meeting with and choosing suppliers. You're on the home stretch and your wedding is just a few weeks away. Wouldn't it be nice to hand over the last-minute arrangements so you can relax and enjoy the build-up to your day? Essex-based wedding planner Helen Carter is offering readers the chance to win a Final Weeks Wedding Management service, worth £850. The winning couple will meet with Helen six to eight weeks before the wedding to hand over the arrangements. They will visit the venue together for a wedding day walk-through, and Helen will offer advice and recommendations for any outstanding suppliers. All of the last-minute arrangements, like confirmation of guest numbers, will be taken care of on the couple's behalf, and suppliers will be provided with an information pack containing directions, emergency contact details and details of specific instructions. In the run-up to the wedding Helen will provide the bride- and groom-to-be, and their wedding party with unlimited telephone and email support, and will assist guests with their travel and accommodation arrangements. She will also create a schedule for the day to ensure everything flows smoothly, and will be on hand throughout the event to add the finishing touches to the venue, liaise with suppliers, keep track of timings and deal with any little hiccups that may arise. All the lucky winners will need to do is relax and enjoy their first day as husband and wife.
