Wedding of the Year 2010 - A new year, a brand new title up for grabs

Wedding of the Year 2010 - A new year, a brand new title up for grabs

Last year our Wedding of the Year competition was a huge success - readers from all over the county entered for their chance to be crowned with the title. So this year we've decided to run the competition again; only we've upped the ante with a fabulous mini-break for two worth £560.

Throughout the year we'll be looking for couples whose Kent-based weddings have taken place in 2010.
Every issue we'll reveal the shortlisted couples, and readers can vote online for their favourite. The winner of each issue will go through to the final, which will be held in spring next year. Any newlyweds can enter the competition: it doesn't matter whether the wedding was large or small: modest or spectacular. Remember, it's the readers who vote, and determine who ends up in the final - and ultimately who wins.

For more informtation on this year's Wedding of the Year competition and to find out how to enter, see page 63 of the current issue, or you can visit our website

Win the services of a wedding planner

Life is busy at the best of times, but when there's a wedding to plan as well, things can really start to get hectic. It's no wonder that the average wedding takes 30 full days to arrange - that's six working weeks, 24 hours a day - when you realise just how much there is to do: there's the venue to book, the dress to buy, the flowers to choose and the fiancé to organise into action. It's an endless list that can make even the most chilled out among us reach boiling point.
Planning a wedding should be fun. A helping hand can make all the difference between a stressful search for suppliers and a happy hunt for those must-have products. Thankfully for Kent's busy couples planners like Monika Mileszczyk at Hassle 3 Concierge & Lifestyle Management have the skills to organise everything for the perfect day.
"When planning a wedding I work with a portfolio of quality suppliers, such as florists, photographers, bespoke jewellers, enertainment and venues to get couples the best products and services at the best prices," says Monika. So if you're confused by cars or in a frenzy about flowers Hassle 3 will have solutions and ideas to help make your big day one to remember for all the right reasons.

I'd love to hear from you
I'm so excited. I was bemoaning the fact that I haven't been to a wedding for ages, when what should pop through on my mobile, but a message from one of my good friends Clara saying that she will be tying the knot in December.

With just a few months to organise what will be a fantastic day, I was relieved to hear that the church had already been booked, and that she and her fiancé are currently on the search for their ideal venue. I just know she'll love some of the glorious stately homes and manor houses we've got in our sights in this issue.

Elsewhere in this issue, our token bloke Ned is flying the flag for the boys and offering advice on choosing the best man, while fashion editor Kerry takes a look at men's shoes for all wedding styles. But the best news of all you soon-to-be-weds is that we loved last year's Wedding of the Year competition so much, we're running it again!

So is your wedding a winner? Send us your pictures and let the search begin.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Romance through the ages

Romance through the ages

Get ready for a 20's, 30's and 40's revival, with a fresh take on classic vintage gowns.

The 1920's, 30's and 40's graced us with so many fashion icons: Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davies, and Jean Harlow; all women who would go on to inspire some of today's biggest bridal designers, from the lavish frills of Ian Stuart to the country-vintage designs of Claire Pettibone.

One thing is for sure though: anyone can wear a vintage-inspired design. If you picture yourself as a bit of a 1920's flapper girl on your wedding day, this look has an emphasis on women who have a slight, slender shape. The sleek gowns are shaped like tunics, and have some intricate detailing on a low-slung waist and panelled skirts.

Brides looking to reflect the 1920's era should finish their look, just like couture designer Lindsay Fleming has, with pretty detailed headdresses adorned with feathers, and strings upon strings of pearls.

For more information on the perfect vintage gown, see pages 46-48 of the current issue.

Our day... Jennie and Phil

Our day... Jennie and Phil

Jennie Mills and Phil Graham were married on 5th September at Ratsbury Barn with a reception at Kench Hill Centre.

Jennie and Phil's first date at a bar in Wimbledon was in 2003 after they met on a dating website. " Phil was the only person I actually met on the site," says Jennie. "We had chatted over email so knew we had the same interests and sense of humour, but were relieved when we also liked the look of each other", she laughs.

We had our ceremony at Ratsbury Barn, which is stunning, and the option of getting married outdoors really appealed to us. The grounds are beautiful, with a pond, oast house and walled garden, yet it wasn't ridiculously expensive like many of the places we visited.

Our reception was held at Kench Hill Centre. When I first saw it I nearly burst into tears because it was perfect as we wanted something relaxed, but with an outdoor focus. It also had bunk beds for about 50 people and we thought it would be great to have all our friends stay over.

For more information on Jennie and Phil's country do, see pages 76-80 of the current issue.

Stately home and manor house venues for your big day - Bradbourne House, East Malling

Set in 20 acres of parkland complete with a lake, ancient trees and a private island, Bradbourne House is a Grade I listed building that dates back to Tudor times.
Couples choosing to marry here have exclusive use of all wedding rooms, including the Great Hall, breakfast room, Green Room, Oak Bar and Marble Hall.
For couples wanting a larger affair, a marquee can be set up to accommodate 150 wedding breakfast guests.

They say: Our wedding couples love the history and beauty of this manor house, which has been in the Twisden family for over 400 years. We ensure all our weddings are special for everyone involved.
We say: If you're looking for somewhere a little different to say 'I do', the marble steps outside the Great Hall might be the answer.

Five steps to the perfect seating plan...

Five steps to the perfect seating plan...

It's a difficult job at the best of times, but when your big day is just around the corner, putting together a seating plan for 50 or more guests can seem like mission impossible.

It's an important task, too; even if yours is a casual affair, letting guests choose their own seats could result in complete chaos.

I'm sorry to say that this is an area where wedding planners have no choice but to take a back seat: after all, you and your fiancé are the ones who know all of your guests and, most importantly, the family dynamics. But don't fret - County Wedding Magazines has put together a foolproof guide to getting your table plan done and dusted, so you can relax and enjoy the run-up to your big day.

For more information, and a full guide on the perfect seating plan, see pages 91 & 92 of the current issue.
