The Ferry House Inn

Refurbished to restore its 16th century character and charm, The Ferry House Inn is a peaceful family-run venue on the edge of Swale Estuary on the Isle of Sheppey. There are three acres of terraced lawns which look out on to the water and the location makes an idyllic setting for wedding photographs. The barn restaurant also incorporates olde-world rustic charm with features such as traditional wooden beams, solid oak floors and open log fires. The venue offers a bespoke service to each couple and can cater for up to 150 guests for the ceremony and hold 300 people for the reception.

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is a popular venue for nuptials with its grand mansion house and Livingstone Lodge which offers luxury overnight accommodation. And the company has recently announced that it can now offer a fun animal-inspired weekend for any bride-to-be and her hens. The weekend, entitled Hens on Safari, offers a safari experience at the park, followed by some pampering, and a five-course African-inspired feast as well as an overnight stay in one of the tents.

Danielle Wilkins reveals the latest style buys for the new season

A must-read

I've read this book from cover to cover, and never get tired of looking through the photographs. Vintage Weddings, One Hundred Years of Bridal Fashion and Style is a brand new title showcasing 100 years of vintage weddings and dresses. With a foreword by designer Bruce Oldfield, the book takes a close look at key periods, iconic designers and other cultural influences in wedding fashion. As well as being a great source of inspiration, the book also helps brides recognise the silhouette that will best suit their body shape, as well as show them how to find appropriate accessories.

Vintage Weddings, One Hundred Years of Bridal Fashion and Style by Marnie Fogg (£25) is published by Carlton Books.

Whether you're looking for bright and beautiful cupcakes, a traditional fruit creation, or something a little more quirky, Francesca Lee looks at different designs from some local suppliers

Cakes with character

Shelley's Cakes is based in Chislehurst and has been running for over 25 years, "I originally started baking from home until the company steadily grew. We then moved into a studio and kitchens where we make and decorate all the cakes," says Shelley Ridge, founder of the business. "We are lucky to be able to offer a range of styles, whether it's intricate piped detailing through to more quirky and hand- modelled designs with caricatures," she adds.
