Maria Antoniou and James Malster were married on 30th August last year at Boxley Church in Maidstone. Maria and James played host to 300 friends and family at their Big Fat Greek Wedding.

It was New Year's Eve five-and-a-half years ago when Maria and James first got together, and it's all thanks to the bride's best friend Laura. "She persuaded me to go out that night," says Maria. The two girls headed to a pub in Canterbury, and it was there that she and James were introduced to one another by friends. By the time the clock struck midnight Maria admits that they had both had a tipple or two and a kiss seemed like the perfect way to welcome in the coming year. "We started dating from there," she says.

Not content with one or even two hen dos, Maria celebrated her forthcoming nuptials a total of three times. "They were all brilliant. The main one was in London and was organised by my maid-of honour," she says. The do involved six girls and a weekend of partying in the capital. "We stayed at the Tower Bridge hotel, and did lots of drinking and dancing. We also had a cheerleading session, which was hilarious, and very tiring." But the intrepid six's efforts didn't go to waste.
"We performed our routine at the wedding. It wasn't easy in a big dress, but it was a great entertainment for everyone."
For his part, James headed down to Bournemouth with nine friends, but is staying tight-lipped about the group's escapades. "We had a great time," he says, "but the golden rule of stag dos applies; what goes on tour stays on tour."

Top tips
I'd love to be a dab hand with a camera. However, I really am no photographer and even the most basic point and click digital is beyond my mastering; the results rarely make it off the camera, let alone into a picture frame. So it was with interest that I read the tips on page 109 explaining how to make the most of wildlife photography while on honeymoon.

But this hasn't been the only revelation for me this issue, thanks to Lisa Morgan's wine guide. While I do enjoy a glass of dry white, I'm no sommelier and it's certainly given me more idea about choosing wine to complement food. If you're about to embark on the tricky task of finding the perfect wedding tipple, I recommend checking out page 66.

Happy planning

Whether you're a city girl at heart, or a sweet country bride, once you've chosen the venue for the big day it's full steam ahead building the wedding around that setting. Everything from the table decorations to the transport reflects your individual style. So why should your outfit be any different?

What we love about sassy city brides is their ability to push back the style boundaries and go all out with unconventional accessories. Think chic monochrome for the bridesmaids, and glitzy accessories and clashing statement heels for the bride. Those dresses that are perfect for a city celebration should be pretty but practical and might be made from sheaths of soft silk satin, with simple, delicate details like French beading or vibrant corsages for an elegant but edgy style. Slim-fitting or sexy shorter styles will ooze glamour for a look that stands out from the crowd.

For more information on picking the perfect dress for your big day, see pages 51-54 of the current issue.
