There's no doubt that all eyes will be on the bride as she walks down the aisle but don't forget to make sure your maids stand out from the crowd too. Francesca Lee looks at trends, top tips and insider info on achieving a picture perfect look

Finding your dream gown isn't always the simplest task for a bride-to-be, after all there are so many different styles on the market it can be easy to get caught up in trying to find the one. Acting as a support team, the bridesmaids are often on hand to help you find the perfect dress, but what about when it comes to choosing theirs? Where do you start?

It's important to not only keep the colour scheme of your big day in mind but also the theme, as this can be accentuated through their outfits. For example, a 1950s theme could be set off with an A-line skirt for an Audrey Hepburn feel, while darker colours would look great for a more contempoary style. Or, if you have yet to decide on a trend or colour scheme for your nuptials, why not let the dresses do the talking and take your inspiration from them?

Whether you're looking for high-end or high street there is a range of options to choose from. The main aspect is to remember that your bridesmaids will most likely want to have some input into choosing their gowns, so when you take them on the hunt make sure you have a clear idea of what you're looking for beforehand. We talk to experts in the region who give us advice on what's hot right now and how to achieve a polished look for your nearest and dearest.

Winters warmers
Summer has been and gone and the shorter days and darker nights are back with a vengeance. But despite this change in light - and temperature - spelling the end of carefree summer nuptials, I for one am excited about the sense of romance that winter weddings evoke - think fairylights, candles and hot mulled wine. In fact the colder months are my personal favourite, which is why I chose to hold my own big day during this period.

While some brides-to-be dream of a balmy summer evening in which to sip a cool class of fizz out on the lawn, I can't wait to mingle with my guests in the cosy barn by the ethereal glow of candlelight.

Our big day: Rebecca and Greg

Our big day: Rebecca and Greg

Rebecca Pearce and Greg Kemsley enjoyed a 1950s-style celebration at Hotel du Vin on 2nd July, 2011. Their soft colour scheme of pink, ivory and silver added a vintage touch to the day

Rebecca and Greg met at work more than eight years ago, "I was a Saturday girl and Greg was a full-time supervisor. He was so good-looking, I fell for him straightaway," Rebecca says. Greg adds, "It was love at first sight for me, I used to always try and catch Rebecca's attention and say something witty."

The couple soon started dating and in 2010 Greg took Rebecca to a jewellery shop in Brighton. Rebecca was scanning the shop window when Greg pointed out a sign in the shop window that read, "Becky will you marry me?" He got down on one knee and Rebecca accepted his proposal with excitement.
