Shelley and Franco had a bright and beautiful big day with a fuchsia and blue colour scheme

Shelley and Franco met at a mutual friend's picnic at Proms in the Park in Hyde Park, London. Franco admired the Italian food Shelley had brought to the gathering, as well as her cheeky personality and beautiful looks. Shelley also found herself falling for Franco, "We just got on so well, maybe it was the copious amounts of champagne, or maybe it was because we just laughed so much together," she reflects. The two soon became an item and a few years later, while on holiday in India, Franco popped the question on an elephant ride. Shelley said 'yes' and was thrilled to find out he had asked her parents beforehand for her hand in marriage.

"The church is opposite Franco's old school and is a beautiful building with lots of character. As my friends and family are not from West Sussex, I wanted them to enjoy the beauty of the area and the Downs. We knew straight away that this was where we wanted to get married," Shelley says.

For the reception, the couple fell in love with Fitzleroi Barn, "The barn was just what we were looking for as it had lots of charm and allowed us to be creative with the space. The neutral colours meant that our bright pink and blue colour scheme would stand out and there was plenty of space outdoors where we could put a marquee for dancing. It was perfect on all accounts," Shelley adds.

Shelley originally looked for a slim-fitting style gown but ended up falling for a striking Ian Stuart design after a lengthy deliberation with her mum, sisters and friends. Her dress incorporated a crystal-covered fitted bodice and a large flowing skirt with lace detailing on the train. Franco's three-piece dark blue suit was from designer Gresham Blake. It had a turquoise lining inside the jacket as well as on the back of the waistcoat.

Winter warmers
Winter is fast approaching and the dark mornings are drawing closer but one thing that's worth thinking of when planning any winter nuptials is how to dress for the occasion. I knew I didn't want to opt for the traditional, so instead chose a 1920s inspired gown that would perfectly complement the old Hollywood glamour theme I was after. For some further inspiration for your own attire take a peek at our Return of Elegance feature on page 45. Fashion editor Danielle Wilkins has picked an array of beautiful gowns ideal for a decadent occasion. And while we're thinking fashion, the change in season allows you to opt for more dramatic attire for your nearest and dearest. We've spoken to some of the region's leading boutiques on how to dress your bridesmaids, with some insider advice from top bridalwear experts.

If, like me, you've had your heart set on a barn venue to celebrate your nuptials in, we've rounded up some of our favourites starting on page 23. Elsewhere this issue we have inspirational ideas on stationery, engagement shoots and even ideas on how to make your big day eco-friendly.
