Need a little time? Take the pressure off and relax at a spa day with your nearest and dearest. Your Sussex Wedding features editor Francesca Lee checks out one of the areas most wellknown hotspots, Alexander House Hotel and Utopia Spa, located in Turners Hill.
When the taxi pulled up outside Alexander House Hotel and Utopia Spa I was impressed by the character and grandeur of this 17th century building. The experience began with a warm welcome, a schedule of the day and tour of the spa, which spans across three floors. Guests are encouraged to wear dressing gowns throughout the day and even dine in their robes at lunch; giving the experience a relaxed feel from the start. I enjoyed a healthy sharing platter, followed by a creme brulee. Afterwards, many guests go through to the main lounging area to unwind, and there is also a list of treatment options available.
My therapist, Megan, introduced herself and I was led up to one of the 25 treatment rooms. We had an initial consultation before I laid down on the massage table, in the heated blankets, and enjoyed a 55-minute full body massage. It was pure bliss. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the Grecian-inspired spa areas, relaxing in the hydrotherapy swimming pool. I'd also recommend the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, and the subdued lighting enhanced the whole experience. The spa garden, where I spent my time in the outdoor hot tub, drink in hand watching autumn leaves fall from the trees is a beautiful and peaceful place to unwind. For those who are looking for some pre-wedding pampering I would highly recommend the spa, whether it's with your hens or your husband-to-be is in need of a bit of TLC, you will certainly come out feeling rested, refreshed and relaxed.

Late Victorian and early Edwardian in its origin, this venue is nestled under the South Downs, just outside the historic market town of Midhurst. Set within ten acres, the grounds comprise a traditional English country garden complete with rose walk, ponds and rolling countryside, making it a perfect backdrop for wedding photographs. The venue is ideal for more intimate weddings, with a maximum number of 60 guests for both the ceremony and reception. Ceremonies take place in a barn adjacent to the main building, and there are 21 bedrooms in the main hotel and three adjacent cottages for guests to stay in. | Here comes the bride |
 |
Here at Your Sussex Wedding we've been discussing what is the most important part of the big day, the ceremony, wedding breakfast or evening celebrations. For me, the most memorable part was as I entered the church and saw my husband-to-be waiting for me at the end of aisle - and I soaked up every moment from that point on.
For you lucky brides-to-be that have it all to come we have an issue full of hints and tips on how to make your day one to remember. On page 82 we look at ways you can look and feel your best on the big day by talking to some of the county's top wellbeing experts, while our photography feature on page 37 is full of inspirational photography ideas for your own album.
Happy Planning!

The Makeup Box Studio is run by experienced make-up artists and bridal specialists, Paula Rixon and Karen Loraine. Opened in early 2011, the company specialises in creating a natural look for brides on their big day.
Both Paula and Karen are experts in applying foundation with an airbrush to give the skin a smooth and flawless appearance. They also have experience in covering blemishes, scars and tattoos with camouflage make-up to help achieve a picture perfect look.
Paula Rixon, co-director of The Makeup Box Studio says, "It's important to choose a make-up artist who understands the look you're after. It's easy to think you can do your own make-up, or ask a friend, but why not take the stress out of the preparations and consult an expert? It helps to have a professional's opinion and you can bounce ideas off one another."
The lucky winner, along with four friends, will experience a day at The Makeup Box Studio, for a makeover experience and photo shoot. The photographs will be taken by wedding photographer, Guy Sherlock, creative director of Dreamweave Photography, and at the end of the experience the bride will be given a CD containing 12 of her favourite shots from the day. Both Paula and Karen will apply the make-up and there will also be specialist bridal hairdressers on hand.

The expert's opinion..."Brighton Pier is a beautiful place for wedding photographs," says Paul Demuth of Demuth Photography. "This shot shows the newlyweds relaxed and carefree enjoying their day together. I love the vivid colours of the carousel, the seafront in the background and the gulls; it's a classic seaside image."

On the sofa We talk to Marcus Sheen from Paladins Classic Car Hire and ask him some key questions about the world of transport
Q&A - How do couples choose their transport for the big day? Transport, like almost every aspect of the big day, should be a personal choice. Often couples have a very specific vehicle in mind - a Jaguar Mk II might stir up memories of the 1960s, while a Morris Minor Traveller is perfect for those marrying on a budget but who don't want to compromise on their transport. If couples don't have a particular car in mind, it's definitely worth visiting wedding fairs and seeing what's on offer and how much transport is likely to cost. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions, after all, it's your day and car hire companies should be flexible with the options available.
Q&A - How can couples make the transport suit the theme of the day? Although a lot of couples opt for our more classic Rolls-Royce and Bentley, our Morris Minor Traveller and Jaguar Mk II are popular for themed weddings, or for those who want something a little bit different. A Morris Minor looks great for countryside weddings and has a quintessentially British feel to it. On the other hand, a Jaguar Mk II is a fun and sporty number, and brilliant for couples in love with the swinging '60s.
Q&A - How can brides make an entrance with their transport? The bride stepping out from the car, and the happy couple leaving the wedding venue are popular photographed opportunities, so a good car acts as a great backdrop.
Q&A - Please give us some top tips to take into consideration when choosing transport It's important to know what you're paying, what it includes and if there are any hidden charges. Some car hire companies may limit your time period of hire so they can fit as many bookings into a day as possible, which, if your day runs behind schedule means at best you could be clock watching, or at worst, it could cost you extra. It's also worth checking if things like scenic routes, champagne toasts and ribbons are included in the package.
