We check out venues in the Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath areas.

Slaugham Place

It's a... dramatic waterside marquee wedding venue located among the moated ruins of an Elizabethan manor house. The grounds of Slaugham Place ooze history as they are encircled by the original Elizabethan walls.

They say... These ancient remains are situated among 12 acres of grounds, including formal gardens, bridges, a river and wonderful old trees, so there's plenty of choice for beautiful wedding photos.

We say... The Grade II listed ruins create a memorable backdrop for an atmospheric wedding reception especially during the evening when they are floodlit.

Give your locks some much-needed pampering before the big day, with a break in The Cotswolds courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Stuart Holmes.

Top hairstylist Stuart Holmes relocated from London to Cheltenham in 2003, where he established his luxurious hair and beauty salon with his wife Sara. After the move, many of his clients started to regularly travel from London for their appointments so Stuart decided to team up with two of the area's most exclusive hotels to launch the Hair Holiday package. This enables clients to make a relaxing weekend of having their hair done and enjoying some pampering too. Over the past six years the Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa has gone from strength to strength and now employs 20 professional staff.

Briony and Simon take the crown

Briony and Simon take the crown

Briony and Simon were married on 27th June, 2009 and are over the moon to have won our Wedding of the Year competition.

Briony and Simon's theme was a relaxed country and vintage tea party with a floral focus, and the colour scheme was blush pink, ivory and brown.

Your Sussex Wedding:
How does it feel to be 'wearing' the Wedding of the Year crown?
Briony: We are ecstatic. It feels amazing! We want to thank everybody who voted for us. It really is the icing on the cake to a fantastic year.
We have told our closest relatives and friends and their responses to the news have been great. They are now taking every opportunity to tell everybody who came to our wedding that they were guests at the Sussex Wedding of the Year. It's very funny!

YSW:
You've known each other since childhood. How did your
friendship blossom into marriage?
Briony: Our relationship developed through our mutual interests, and we had our first date in April, 2001. We were very young - Simon was 14 and I was 17 - but we both remember it vividly.

To see the rest of our chat with Briony, along with a reminder of the winning wedding, see pages 56 & 57 of the current issue.

They say love is sweet so what better way to evoke the sentiment than in your wedding theme?
Laura Binder looks at candy colour schemes...

With spring upon us I can't help but think of pretty pastel tones for wedding days. But, to stand out from the crowd, why not add a tasty touch to the season's colours with a candy twist?
Couples can stick well within budget by creating
economical yet eye-catching centrepieces: large glass bowls or tall jars filled with retro treats like flying saucers, sherbet lemons, marshmallows and lollipops look devastatingly sweet and tables can be named after them too.
Indulging in all things candy is also a great option for those with children on the guest list, and works just as well for adults - after all, who doesn't have a taste for old school treats?

For more information on how to create the perfect candy colour scheme for your big day, see page 61 of the current issue.

Five steps to the perfect seating plan

Five steps to the perfect seating plan

Your reception depends upon it, so get it right and make your celebrations unforgettable.

It's a difficult job at the best of times, but when your big day is just around the corner, putting together a seating plan for 50 or more guests can seem like mission impossible.
It's an important task, too; even if yours is a casual affair, letting guests choose their own seats could result in complete chaos.
I'm sorry to say that this is an area where wedding planners have no choice but to take a back seat: after all, you and your fiancé are the ones who know all of your guests and, most importantly, the family dynamics. But
don't fret - County Wedding Magazines has put together a foolproof guide to getting your table plan done and dusted, so you can relax and enjoy the run-up to your big day.

For a step by step guide on the perfect seating plan see pages 85 & 86 of the current issue.
