A day by the seaside is a sure-fire way to enjoy a fun atmosphere at the wedding celebrations. Here are a few of our favourites from Worthing to Bexhill on Sea.
THE COODEN BEACH HOTEL, BEXHILL ON SEA
Direct access to the beach is just one of the reasons couples love saying 'I do' at this traditional-style venue. The well tended gardens are fabulous for relaxing in and the beachside terrace is a real added extra. Tastefully refurbished, clean and comfortable, the function room has a neutral colour scheme, superb views and a relaxing atmosphere.
The sun glistening on the sea, the ever-changing views as the tide ebbs and flows and the setting sun over Beachy Head are just some of the romantic reasons that The Cooden Beach Hotel thinks coastal weddings at the venue are a popular choice.

My parents recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Keen to snoop into their life in 1959 BC (Before Children) I got out their album and scrutinised the pictures. Other than my nana's hat making me smile, what I did notice was that the style of my mum's wedding dress didn't look as dated as my cousin's '90s get-up in the photo sitting on my parents' bookshelf. Out of this observation came a feature idea, and on page 37 we take a look at weddings over the past 50 years.
Elsewhere, East Grinstead and Crowborough find themselves in our venues spotlight, while those who enjoy a summer's day on the beach will love the coastal locations we've highlighted on page 23.
Happy reading

| Win a weekend 'hair holiday' |
| |

| |
Give your locks some much-needed pampering before the big day, with a break in The Cotswolds courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Stuart Holmes.
Top hairstylist Stuart Holmes relocated from London to Cheltenham in 2003, where he established his luxurious hair and beauty salon with his wife Sara. After the move, many of his clients started to regularly travel from London for their appointments so Stuart decided to team up with two of the area's most exclusive hotels to launch the Hair Holiday package. This enables clients to make a relaxing weekend of having their hair done and enjoying some pampering too. Over the past six years the Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa has gone from strength to strength and now employs 20 professional staff.

We spoke to Lesley Western from Buns to Banquets to find out about seasonal produce for the big day.
You've booked your photographer from a studio five minutes' drive from your house, the florist has a shop in your nearest town and you've bought your dress from a boutique that has a great reputation in the area. If supporting local suppliers and keeping air miles to a minimum are really important to you, sourcing as much of your wedding as close to home as possible is going to be a priority. But when it comes to the catering, it pays to be realistic. While the plethora of farmers' markets reveals that Sussex is awash with local food producers, the reality is that they may not be able to cater to a wedding breakfast for 100 of your nearest and dearest.
Lesley Western from Buns to Banquets says that one of the main benefits of choosing a seasonal menu is that what you are eating will probably have been sourced quite locally. "The ingredients will be less expensive too," she adds. When choosing the menu, the first thing to think about is the style of your wedding. Do you want a formal sit-down meal, a relaxed outdoor do, or does something a little quirkier tickle your tastebuds? Choose your caterer accordingly and you'll have the wedding breakfast of your dreams.

| Angela and Martin - Our day |
| |
 |
| |
Angela Harvey and Martin Hurry were married on 14th August, 2009.
Angela, 29, and 30-year-old Martin first met while studying at university in Bristol. However, it wasn't until their paths crossed a few years later while they were both living in London that romance blossomed. "Martin organised a very memorable first date," says Angela. "We met on Westminster Bridge one night after work, and then took a trip on the London Eye as the sun went down and the city lights came on."
The venues were both really easy to organise. We knew we wanted to get married at The Manor Barn because it is so beautifully simple inside with features like a large fireplace, wooden floors, beams and panelling. It has great gardens and lovely secluded spots for photographs.
TOP TIP
Delegate! Give little jobs to those you trust so that you can relax and soak up every moment of the day as it goes so fast.

| Something blue |
| |
 |
| |
For an alternative spring/summer look, forget pink and opt for something blue, says Laura Binder...
There's definitely a certain je ne sais quoi about using blue hues as a colour scheme for spring or summer wedding dates. In fact when it comes to achieving the perfect look, the options are endless: from dark midnight tones for a deeply romantic evening reception, navy for a classic finish, peacock blue for a touch of drama, or baby blue for light and breezy spring days - the sky's the limit.
But, why stick to one shade? One of my favourite looks for the season is to combine contrasting shades of blue with bright white. The result looks wonderful against a countryside setting, and super chic amid the surroundings of an urban venue.
For more ideas on creating the perfect blue colour scheme, see page 75 of the current issue. |
