Lighter-than-air fabrics, delicate detailing and billowing volume. Perfect dresses for summer weddings.

In the warmer months shorter and lighter gowns are by far the easiest and most comfortable choices. But that's not to say brides who have been dreaming of wearing a princess-style gown, can't. Volume is back this season, but rather than heavy satin and enormous petticoats, brides should be opting for softer materials like chiffon, tulle and organza.

"We're seeing lighter, flowing gowns that have movement and an air of casual elegance," says bridalwear designer Claire Pettibone. "This season's designs are reflecting a more relaxed and intimate style of wedding. Soft mermaid silhouettes and sheathing fabrics are both popular."
The Greek goddess look is also a chic choice for summer, so choose dresses made from sumptuous slipper satin for a luxurious feel. Or for something with a bit of an edge, why not show off some leg with a shorter style?

For more information on finding the perfect summer gown for your wedding, see pages 55-57 of the current issue.

The Palawan islands are the Philippines' last frontier and the Far East's best kept secret. Rowena Marella-Daw discovers why this piece of heaven is worth keeping to yourself.

There are two types of travellers: those who play safe and follow the familiar route, and those who prefer to explore the lesser trodden path. If you're the latter, then the islands of Palawan in the Philippines have some surprises in store. Of the 7,107 islands that make up the archipelago, the province of Palawan takes the lion's share in terms of exceptional beauty and biodiversity. In fact, in the November-December 2007 issue of National Geographic Traveler, an independent panel gave Palawan the highest score among island destinations in east and southeast Asia, beating more popular destinations such as Bali, Lombok and Phuket.

Considered the country's final frontier, Palawan is protected by the Sulu Sea to the east and the South China Sea to the west. Its many limestone cliffs cradle deserted white sand coves, tranquil lagoons and mangroves, while beneath its emerald waters, coral reefs teem with life. On land, dramatic landscapes provide the perfect habitat for endemic species such as the swiftlet, Palawan hornbill, peacock pheasant, bearcat, and the anteater.

For more information on the Palawan Islands, see pages 110-113 of the current issue.

Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ, we're getting excited. It's not long until the launch of national Brides at Work day on 17th September, 2010 and we can't wait to take part and dress up in all manner of bridal finery. A Friday at work has never seemed so much fun and we want you to get involved too!

In association with The National Wedding Show, brides old and new from all over the UK are taking part to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, by wearing their wedding dress to work. But if you're a bride-to-be who doesn't want to unveil her gown just yet, there are other ways you can show your support. Why not simply accessorise? A veil and tiara will still make an impact.

Alternatively, rally up your colleagues and organise an office wedding party and host your very own bake sale to raise some cash. Bride at Work isn't just for past or present brides either. We want everyone to get involved! Grooms can don their suits for the day, and mums and bridesmaids can join in by wearing their favourite outfits.

We'll be showing off our pictures from the day, and we want to see yours too! So show some support for a great charity and send in your photos to daniellew@countyweddingmagazines.com and we could print them in a future issue of the magazine with your name and company details. Emma and Jamie enjoyed a truly fun Brighton day when they said 'I do' by the sea.

Emma, 32, felt drawn to 25-year-old Jamie on the first day that he started working with her at The Metropole Hotel in Brighton six years ago. "I noticed Jamie because he seemed such a cheeky chap, and was always smiling," she says. It seems the attraction was mutual, and when a work do provided the chance to chat, a date became inevitable. As Emma explains: "We went to a staff quiz night. Jamie had a space on his team and he asked me to join him. We spent the whole night talking and not paying too much attention to the quiz questions. After that we went on a few causal dates and really got to know each other. We continued to meet up regularly and fell in love." Jamie adds: "The more I got to know Emma, the more I realised that she was the girl of my dreams."

"My dress was a true princess style. It was a champagne colour with a detailed dropped bodice and a full ruched skirt. I teamed it with a veil, pearl pins in my hair, earrings and a simple necklace," says Emma. For his part, Jamie wore a chocolate brown tail suit with an ivory-coloured waistcoat and cravat.

Emma travelled to The Terraces in a classic Beauford, while Jamie arrived in a red hummer. "I wanted something traditional, while Jamie wanted something a bit more gangster," says Emma.

You've booked your photographer from a studio five minutes' drive from your house, the florist has a shop in your nearest town and you've bought your dress from a boutique that has a great reputation in the area. If supporting local suppliers and keeping air miles to a minimum are really important to you, sourcing as much of your wedding as close to home as possible is going to be a priority. But when it comes to the catering, it pays to be realistic.

Firm favourite

Mmmmm... why not treat your guests to fish and chips, mushy peas and pickles?

Your Sussex Wedding thinks it'd be fab to have a fish and chip van turn up to feed your guests. "It adds a fun element and a talking point so that people can bond over a universally liked meal," says Mike Hughes of Moby Dicks Mobile Catering. And the best news is, the weather can't ruin it. While the ideal may be for friends and family to relax around a picnic table in the sun, if the heavens open and the consuming has to take place indoors, it really won't ruin the atmosphere formal or informal. Mike agrees: "We have covered a wide range of weddings, sometimes providing the wedding breakfast, sometimes an alternative to a buffet. Some celebrations have been informal, while some have been much more formal, but all have had an element of fun surrounding the food."

For more useful catering ideas, see pages 43-47 of the current issue.
