A bouncy castle, gladiators, hot pink flowers and a beautiful venue were just some of the highlights of Lucy and Dave's big day.
Early days
"Dave and I have known each other since childhood, but our mutual feelings only blossomed in 2007, and we started dating in 2008," says Lucy.
Worth all the effort
"Nine months of planning and organising seemed to take forever," says Lucy. "Luckily, I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of style, which made it a lot easier. "The trickiest part was designing the invitations, which took a while to finalise and see the finished product, not to mention getting them out on time to all the guests. "Despite all that, I absolutely loved planning all the elements of the day, and seeing the end result was an amazing feeling."
Chapel chic "I had always wanted to get married at Windsor Parish Church. It's beautiful and also very special to me and my family," says Lucy. The reception was held at Beaumont Estate's impressive 19th century chapel. "I loved it as soon as we visited and I remember thinking that there was no way we would be able to afford such a place".

| I'd love to hear from you |
 |
My parents recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Keen to snoop into their life in 1959 BC (Before Children), I got out their album and scrutinised the pictures. Other than my nana's hat making me smile, what I did notice was that the style of my mum's wedding dress didn't look as dated as my cousin's '90s get-up in the photo sitting on my parents' bookshelf. Out of this observation came a feature idea, and on page 47 we take a look at weddings over the past 50 years.
Elsewhere, South Buckinghamshire fi nds itself in our venues spotlight, while those who appreciate the romance of rivers will love the waterside settings we've highlighted on page 15.
Happy reading

Give your locks some much-needed pampering before the big day, with a break in The Cotswolds courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Stuart Holmes.
Top hairstylist Stuart Holmes relocated from London to Cheltenham in 2003, where he established his luxurious hair and beauty salon with his wife Sara. Getting the food and drink right is an important aspect of your big day, so make it a memorable feast with creative ideas and tips from the county's caterers.
Andalucian fiesta
A typical Andalucian feast will include a buffet of paella (chicken, seafood or Valenciana style) cooked in very large paella pans, roast suckling pig, chorizos, tortillas, olives, Iberico ham, chilled gazpacho soup, prawn croquettes and fried calamari. Wash this down with a selection of dry and sweet sherry (Canasta Cream from Williams and Humbert, Jerez is highly recommended), Spanish brandy and, of course, sangria For dessert, enjoy the creaminess of crema Catalana, Spain's answer to crème brûlée, and churros (similar to doughnuts but lighter), which are best eaten by dunking in a cup of hot, thick chocolate drink. They are delicious and the kids will love them. To entertain the guests, hire a flamenco group of dancers, singers and guitarists to perform alegrias, bulerias and Sevillana routines that will get your guests stamping on the dancefloor with lots of attitude.

Lighter-than-air fabrics, delicate detailing and billowing volume. Perfect dresses for summer weddings.
In the warmer months shorter and lighter gowns are by far the easiest and most comfortable choices. But that's not to say brides who have been dreaming of wearing a princess-style gown, can't. Volume is back this season, but rather than heavy satin and enormous petticoats, brides should be opting for softer materials like chiffon, tulle and organza. "We're seeing lighter, flowing gowns that have movement and an air of casual elegance," says bridalwear designer Claire Pettibone. "This season's designs are reflecting a more relaxed and intimate style of wedding. Soft mermaid silhouettes and sheathing fabrics are both popular." The Greek goddess look is also a chic choice for summer, so choose dresses made from sumptuous slipper satin for a luxurious feel. Or for something with a bit of an edge, why not show off some leg with a shorter style?
For more tips on finding the perfect summer gown, see pages 73-76 of the current issue. |
