Where do you start with planning your wedding day? We asked the experts for their advice.
Planning a wedding is exciting and a lot of fun, but it can also be a challenging, if not daunting experience. This is particularly true for couples with full-time jobs, businesses to run or children to raise. So when the euphoria of your engagement has tapered, the real work begins. The question is: Do you take on the challenge and plan it yourselves, or do you hire a wedding planner to handle the nitty gritty?
Do your maths Calculate the quantity of day guests you would like to invite, then look at venues that can accommodate your numbers without charging extra for room hire. For example, if a venue has a minimum of 80 guests and you only have 50 on your list, you may be charged a room hire charge to make up the difference.
Manage your budget Create a budget plan as soon as possible. This way you are able to spread your spending over time and it's easier to allocate an amount to each element.
Cleverly timed Choose the date or day wisely. Many venues will offer a discount for Thursday, Friday or Sunday weddings, or weddings that are 'out of season'.

Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ, we're getting excited. It's not long until the launch of national Brides at Work day on 17th September, 2010 and we can't wait to take part and dress up in all manner of bridal finery. A Friday at work has never seemed so much fun and we want you to get involved too!
In association with The National Wedding Show, brides old and new from all over the UK are taking part to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, by wearing their wedding dress to work. But if you're a bride-to-be who doesn't want to unveil her gown just yet, there are other ways you can show your support. Why not simply accessorise? A veil and tiara will still make an impact.
Alternatively, rally up your colleagues and organise an office wedding party and host your very own bake sale to raise some cash. Bride at Work isn't just for past or present brides either. We want everyone to get involved! Grooms can don their suits for the day, and mums and bridesmaids can join in by wearing their favourite outfits.
We'll be showing off our pictures from the day, and we want to see yours too! So show some support for a great charity and send in your photos to daniellew@countyweddingmagazines.com and we could print them in a future issue of the magazine with your name and company details. For more information about Brides at Work and to download your fundraising pack, visit www.breakthrough.org.uk/bridesatwork. |

Give your locks some much-needed pampering before the big day, with a break in The Cotswolds courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Stuart Holmes.
Top hairstylist Stuart Holmes relocated from London to Cheltenham in 2003, where he established his luxurious hair and beauty salon with his wife Sara. After the move, many of his clients started to regularly travel from London for their appointments so Stuart decided to team up with two of the area's most exclusive hotels to launch the Hair Holiday package. This enables clients to make a relaxing weekend of having their hair done and enjoying some pampering too. Over the past six years the Stuart Holmes Hair and Beauty Spa has gone from strength to strength and now employs 20 professional staff.

Hannah and Richard filled their big day with personal touches - from Hannah's homemade jam and wedding outfits to a jukebox to entertain guests while cruising along the Thames.
Hannah and Richard met at a bar in Northampton in August, 2000. "On our first date, we went to Abington Park and Rick bought me an ice cream, which is always a winner," says Hannah. It was during a visit to Boston, Massachusetts that Rick decided to pop the question. On a cold Thanksgiving weekend, while walking through the park at Boston Common, Rick bent down to feed a friendly squirrel. When Hannah looked down, the sight of him presenting her with a Tiffany ring took her by surprise. "I really wasn't expecting it, especially on Boston Common," says Hannah, who tells us all about the big day.
My bouquet consisted of astrantia, astilbes, roses, lisianthus and rosemary, accented with a skeleton leaf collar. They typified our country garden style and colour scheme, and also had a nice vintage look. We added ivory gerberas to these flowers to decorate the tables, church pew ends, and also the church gate.
With only six months to plan the wedding, finding the venue proved to be the easiest part. The village of Hambleden is so lovely and we were very lucky to get married there. Making our favours was tricky, and involved picking plums, turning them into jam, filling mini jars, and making fabric tops and labels. Getting creative and coming up with nice personal touches for our guests were the things I enjoyed most.
