...The Swing Kid. What better atmosphere to evoke on your big day than that of a romantic and sophisticated affair, (think Frank Sinatra, glass of wine and dancing) leaving guests remembering your big day for years to come. Surrey-based swing singer Sean Ryder Wolf, also known as The Swing Kid, has gained an excellent reputation for being one of the most exciting swing and Rat Pack singers in the UK. Sean has vast experience having performed a cross the world including the Middle east and Europe.

The moment the nation switched on their televisions to see Catherine Middleton step out in her stunning Sarah Burton gown, bridalwear designers all around the world knew that lace would be a hit for 2012. The following month, they were already showcasing their own take on the trend, with many teaming butterfly, three-quarter-length or full-length lace sleeves with simple silk dupion or taffeta gowns.

And while designers such as Alan Hannah, Ian Stuart and Johanna Hehir have been experimenting with French Chantilly lace overlays, if an all-over lace gown isn't for you, another great way to incorporate this romantic trend into your look is in the form of a bolero or veil. The Vintage Wedding Dress company recently showed off some stunning accessories on the runway, with a selection of scalloped-edged veils and pretty lace sashes.

We love our real wedding couples, and this issue we have selected three of our favourite styles to inspire readers, check out page 53. As well as this, our etiquette guide on page 75 gives the low-down on who does what and the proceedings of the day.

I wish you all the luck in planning your weddings and if the celebration is fast approaching don't worry about the little details. It's the vows and sharing your day with friends and family that counts.

Jonathan Ashman and Sarah Ellicott married on Saturday 16th July, 2011, at the Bingham Hotel, Richmond, with accents of fuchsia running throughout the day

In the beginning...
It's certainly not uncommon to meet your future partner through mutual friends as Sarah and Jon found out after meeting at a party soon after Sarah had moved to London from Australia. Jon says, "For some reason I was outside the front of the house when Sarah arrived, I can still remember her getting out of the cab and giving her a peck on the cheek to welcome her to the party. Within a couple of weeks I could tell we were falling in love - we made each other laugh, we liked a lot of the same things and we felt comfortable being ourselves with each other."

The special moment when Jon proposed came on a romantic holiday. "Our first trip together had been to the Amalfi coast so I decided to take Sarah back there as a surprise," says Jon. "After an evening out, we walked to the top of the steps outside the Duomo, in the main piazza of Amalfi, and I got down on one knee and popped the question."

Cake expectations

Q - We are having a very traditional church ceremony and country house reception with a white colour theme and would like a cake to reflect this. However, we are worried it might appear old-fashioned when we look back at our photos in years to come. Can you suggest ways to avoid this without choosing a modern colourful cake which won't look right in our venue?

A - Elizabeth Finch says:
An all-white cake with white sugar flowers to reflect your bouquet can look stunning if you add texture to the design. A stacked cake can give a more modern feel than one separated by dated cake pillars. Ask your cake designer to incorporate details from your wedding dress such as lace or bows which will make the design more interesting and personal to you. Consider displaying the cake on a plain silver cake stand rather than an ornately decorated one. This gives a nod to tradition but still has a modern edge that won't detract from the cake itself. Highlight details with edible lustre dusts to catch the light as this will create a chic, sophisticated look that is classic and timeless.

Langshott Manor, nr Horley

Langshott Manor is a luxury 16th century boutique hotel in Surrey, steeped in elegance and oozing character. Surrounded by three acres of private Victorian gardens and an ancient moat with resident ducks, it's the quintessentially picture perfect country house.

This intimate hideaway is ideal for those in search of a historic venue and is packed with original features. There is a mixture of oak-panelled and stone walled rooms, some with open fires, and all with plenty of traditional charm.

We love...the original bell tower which welcomes all newlyweds as they walk through the door hand-in-hand.
