The 1920s, '30s and '40s graced us with so many fashion icons: Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davies, and Jean Harlow; all women who would go on to inspire some of today's biggest bridal designers, from the lavish frills of Ian Stuart to the country-vintage designs of Claire Pettibone. One thing is for sure though: anyone can wear a vintage inspired design. If you picture yourself as a bit of a 1920s flapper girl on your wedding day, this look has an emphasis on women who have a slight, slender shape. The sleek gowns are shaped like tunics, and some have intricate detailing on a low-slung waist and panelled skirts. Brides looking to reflect the 1920s era should finish their look, just like couture designer Lindsay Fleming has, with pretty detailed headdresses adorned with feathers, and strings upon strings of pearls.
For more advice on choosing the perfect vintage gown for your big day, see pages 44-46 of the current issue. |

Sophie and Noj held their majestic wedding ceremony at Pembroke Lodge.
Sophie and Noj first met six years ago during a visit to see their mutual friend perform for the Richmond Shakespeare Society. But it wasn't until three years later that they had their first date in a bar in Soho. "It was a perfect first date," says Sophie. "We didn't stop talking the whole night. There was a live jazz band playing and I fell in love straight away with Noj as he is an amazing dancer!"
I probably tried on between 15 and 20 and dresses before I found the right one. They were incredibly patient at Pronovias and let me try on as many as I wanted to. Plus the champagne helped the decision making process too!
There were lots of reasons why we chose Pembroke Lodge. Firstly the size, it could accommodate our 140 guests and we were able to have two rooms. As soon as we drove up we thought 'this is it!' We loved the surrounding beauty of Richmond Park, and Pembroke Lodge has a warm and intimate feeling which was lacking in some of the other venues.
For more information and pictures of Noj and Sophie's big day, see pages 31-34 of the current issue. |
