New Forest & Romsey

New Forest & Romsey

From grand and stately to intimate and romantic, the New Forest and Romsey have some of the county's most beautiful venues.

Something elegant - Rhinefield House

Rhinefield House Hotel is classed as a four-star country house and is set deep in the New Forest National Park. This stately venue is full of grandeur both inside and out, surrounded by 40 acres of manicured gardens with fountains and ponds.
The hotel is licensed for civil ceremonies and offers a choice of settings. The magnificent Grand Hall is modelled on London's Westminster Hall, so expect intricately carved oak panelling and leaded windows.
The Keepers Room is ideal for more intimate celebrations of up to 30 guests and has an ornamental fireplace, while the newer air-conditioned Hurst Castle Suite overlooks the topiary orchard. Make sure you experience the Moorish-style Alhambra Room for an intimate party or romantic dinner.

For something fun and feisty to get you in the mood for an evening out, Cirque du Soleil hosts its shows in lots of venues around the country. And when it comes to the fun factor, it doesn't really get much bigger than this. The company has recently launched a show called Saltimbanco which is set to be a big hit this year. With spectacular costumes, amazing lighting, plenty of humour and enchanting music, it's an event both the young and old will love.
For something similar but slightly more intimate, La Clique cabaret is a sexy, funny cocktail of everything from burlesque performers to contemporary circus acts.

Hello sunshine
As the arrival of spring strikes a chord in all of us, we've turned our attention to music this issue.
See page 43 for ways to create a fabulous soundtrack for every celebration. And, if you still need a hand, we've created a Music Quiz to help you discover the best style for you. So, why not sit down with your fiancé and find out?
Dreaming of warmer climates also inspired the editors here at County Wedding Magazines to write about their fantasy honeymoons. Sun-seekers can find our dream destinations on page 106 where there's bound to be something to tempt you too, whether it's sizzling Rio de Janerio, or a safari in Kenya.
As per usual, we've whipped up our favourite regular features including venues, real weddings, bridal beauty and reader queries in Hot Topic. This issue's experts tackle wedding gifts.
Remember, if you have any wedding worries of your own don't go it alone!

Coastal Romance

A bright and sunny day and beautiful views of Christchurch Bay, the Needles and the Isle of Wight set the scene for Sarah and Jonathan's wedding celebration.

Sarah Coles, 32, and Jonathan Ripley, 28, were married at All Saints Church in Milton-on-Sea on 30th May, 2009.

Sarah and Jonathan were introduced to each other at a party hosted by a mutual friend. "I arrived unfashionably early, so my friend asked Jonathan to keep me entertained," recalls Sarah. "Six months later, we were engaged. Jonathan popped the question while we were on holiday in New York."
Sarah chose a Haya dress from the Pronovias 2009 collection. "The ivory dupion silk gown had a lovely pleated bodice which created a flattering shape," says Sarah. Something old and borrowed was a pair of pearl earrings lent to her by her mother, and something blue was a garter decorated with tiny blue ribbons. She also wore a matching silver necklace and bracelet accented with freshwater pearls.

For more information and pictures of Sarah and Jonathan's big day, see pages 30-34 of the current issue.

Choosing music for the day can be an enjoyable aspect of planning a wedding.
We take a look at a few ideas to set the right tone..

Classic and traditional - Couples can't go wrong with classical music, used as a backdrop to the ceremony, drinks receptions and wedding breakfast. A church choir can be spiritually uplifting, while a harpist brings an air of ephemeral elegance. String quartets are a popular pick for elegant weddings held in a courtyard or stately home, with some able to add a contemporary twist to a classical repertoire. For something different, why not try classical Spanish guitarists to create a relaxing feel and complement a themed wedding?

Candy Kitsch

Candy Kitsch

With spring upon us I can't help but think of pretty pastel tones for wedding days. But, to stand out from the crowd, why not add a tasty touch to the season's colours with a candy twist?
Couples can stick well within budget by creating economical yet eye-catching centrepieces: large glass bowls or tall jars filled with retro treats like flying saucers, sherbet lemons, marshmallows and lollipops look devastatingly sweet and tables can be named after them too. Indulging in all things candy is also a great option for those with children on the guest list, and works just as well for adults - after all, who doesn't have a taste for old school treats?

For more information on the perfect candy colour scheme for your big day, see page 57 of the current issue.
