Supporting role
Welcome to the November/December edition of Attire Bridal magazine which, as usual, is packed full of the latest industry news, expert advice and new collections.

For the industry to stay relevant to today's bride it's always important to support new design talent. This issue we chat to British designer, Samantha Shakespeare, about her brand, Shakespeare In Love, which debuted at The Essential Collection earlier this year. We also find out more about the glamorous and versatile bridal gowns from Hazaar, created by young design duo, Rachel Farrimond and Isoline Hickman.

Moving on, and selling lingerie and shapewear through bridal boutiques should be a perfect fit for retailers; a select range would take up minimal space in store yet offer excellent potential for sales to the entire bridal party. Why then are so few choosing to stock even a limited collection of designs? We speak to leading lingerie suppliers and retailers to find out more about the marketplace.

On the fashion front we showcase some stunning gowns featuring translucent or lace sleeves, with elbow length and 3/4 length being popular choices for 2012 brides. Voluminous skirts featuring fabulous layers of folded fabrics can also be seen in many of the new collections, and we pay particular attention to those with floral accents.

Finally, please turn to page 23 for the very latest news on The Essential Collection 2012, taking place from 8th-10th July. We're delighted to announce key names exhibiting next year but for the very latest information on the show, follow us on our Twitter page at www.twitter.com/EssentialColl.

Exhibitors celebrate following IJL

The UK's leading jewellery trade event, International Jewellery London (IJL) welcomed both national and international visitors to Earls Court 2 this September.

Visitor numbers are reported to have increased by two per cent from 2012, with 9084 people through the doors.

Event Co-Director Syreeta Tranfield commented: "The IJL team were thrilled with the response following the 2011 event. IJL is such an important event for our industry and we do our absolute best to create an excellent environment in which to do business. Visitors commented on the luxurious look of the show and many exhibitors were pleased about the amount of interest and orders they received".

Aside from the exhibitors, there was also a full seminar programme on offer which included a discussion on the key bridal jewellery trends for 2012 from the Deputy Editor of Attire Accessories magazine and the Editor of Attire Bridal magazine.

Jon Richard and Alan Hannah announce joint venture

Jon Richard and Alan Hannah announce joint venture

Jon Richard and luxury bridal designer Alan Hannah have recently collaborated to create a bespoke bridal jewellery collection. The capsule range is the first bridal jewellery range from a premium designer to be available on the high street.

Speaking about the range, Alan Hannah said: "Creating captivating timeless bridalwear is our passion and with our bespoke Alan Hannah Devoted jewellery collection we are providing every bride with a touch of luxury at accessible prices."

The Alan Hannah Devoted collection features 26 handmade pieces that echo the crisp '50s silhouettes of key pieces in the Alan Hannah bridal collection.

Pearls feature heavily in the Alan Hannah spring/summer 2012 bridal collection and this is reflected in the jewellery collection, with the pearl and crystal collar and matching earrings adding a touch of vintage romance to the collection.

The diffusion range launches in January 2012 at 117 Debenhams counters nationwide priced from £12.

Eternity Bridal Ltd hosts charity dinner

Eternity Bridal Ltd hosts charity dinner

Harrogate-based bridal wear manufacturer, Eternity Bridal Ltd, hosted a successful charity dinner at Bistrot Pierre in aid of 'Children in Hope'. The evening was sponsored by freight and logistics specialists GAC and coincided with the British Bridal Exhibition being held at the Harrogate International Centre.

Guests from bridal retail and manufacturing, including Attire Bridal magazine, were treated to a choice of fine bistrot cooking and wines, a welcome break from the intensity of the trade show.

The event raised £750 for Children in Hope, a charity based in Uganda that sells discontinued and end of line bridal wear to fund the building of schools and teacher salaries. The charity has recently opened a shop in Kampala that sells dresses donated by the British Bridal Industry. Jane Sullivan, the UK area representative, explained in a brief speech the work undertaken by the charity to improve the lives of the less fortunate and most importantly to help build a long term education infrastructure for the children of Uganda.

Delegates from the Bridal Exhibition were only too happy to donate end of line collections in support of the charity; free stock being welcomed in order to generate revenue. GAC Logistics has offered to collect and house end of line stock in its warehouses prior to shipping and offered its shipping expertise in negotiating the entry of the goods into Uganda, as well as ensuring they arrive at the Children in Hope Bridal Shop.

"GAC has offered its services free of charge which has been an enormous boost to what we can do for these people," explained Eternity's Amanda Bradwell, "freight is an expensive business and these people have so little that anything that can make a saving allows for more investment in the schools."

Eternity and GAC intend to host another event at Bistrot Pierre in 2012 and would like to extend their thanks to all the people who attended in support of Children in Hope. For further details visit www.eternitybridal.co.uk.
