| Announcing the VOWS Awards 2011 winners |
| |
 |
| |
Scotland's top wedding suppliers were announced in Glasgow recently.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Capital FM presenter and stand-up comedian Des Clarke and featured 20 award categories, including the Vows Industry Award won this year by By Storm.
Stewart Roxburgh at Scottish Enterprise was part of the five-strong judging panel, which also included representatives from VisitScotland and Investors in People, Scotland. He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have been involved in the judging panel for VOWS Awards 2011. It was a tough job, as this year's awards saw the highest voting figures in its seven-year history. But every member of the panel was delighted to learn of the excellent levels of customer services being upheld in the Scottish wedding industry and the 20 winning companies really are a credit to the industry as a whole for maintaining such."
Best bridal retailer was Alison Kirk Bridal, while Corrine Smith Designs won best bridal accessories for the fourth year running.

| New Year's resolutions |
 |
How was 2011 for you? That's the question we asked bridal retailers around the country and we received wide-ranging responses. Given the state of the economy, not just in the UK but in the rest of the Europe, it's heartening to see that many boutiques are not just surviving but are thriving. Some are moving into larger premises, others are diversifying into new sectors of the market, while many more are consolidating their existing offering to ensure they are providing their brides with the very best customer service.
There's no doubt that the union of Prince William and Kate Middleton gave many bridal retailers a boost in 2011, and 2012 is set to be another big year for Britain. Not only will we be celebrating The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June, but we'll also be hosting the Olympics this summer. The world-wide attention these two events will generate is sure to have a positive impact on British manufacturers. Therefore, we've decided to spotlight some talented bridal names that design and make their gowns right here in the UK, including Chanticleer and Alan Hannah.
Also in this issue we take a look at the rapidly growing market for prom wear, which has captivated British girls ever since this phenomenon crossed the Atlantic. Leading suppliers talk trends, and we showcase the hottest looks for the coming year.
Finally, we have some excellent advice from our experts including how to insure your business against the risk of flooding, preventing intellectual property theft in the workplace and how to maximise your presence on social networking platforms.

The RBA owes a huge debt of gratitude to Alan and I hope my feet are big enough to fill his shoes. During his time as Chair, Alan has been instrumental in establishing the RBA as the most prestigious association for bridalwear in the UK and his wit and charm will be sorely missed."

| Mon Cheri takes home three 2011 DEBI Awards |
| |
 |
| |
Mon Cheri recently announced its success at the DEBI Awards, given annually by the National Bridal Market Association (NBMA), which recognises distinctive excellence in the bridal industry.
For its 25th year, the DEBI Awards were held at the Chicago Field Museum located in Chicago, IL. Winners represented the bridal industry's leading manufacturers and retailers throughout the world. Mon Cheri dominated the event by winning all three of the awards it was nominated for. This is the third time in Mon Cheri history that three DEBI Awards were given in one ceremony.
The three Mon Cheri brands that were awarded are: Montage by Mon Cheri for the Special Occasion category, Joan Calabrese for Mon Cheri for the Flower Girl category and Tony Bowls for the Prom category. After humbly accepting the awards, Mon Cheri CEO Steve Lang stated: "We are blessed to be where we are and I owe it to my team. They're the ones that make it happen. But to me the greatest asset of the company is the relationship we share with each retail partner. They're the ones that are on the front-line, seeing the brides." |
