Guy and Gemini's striking wedding was awash with colour
After meeting at a mutual friend's dinner party, Guy and Gemini soon fell in love.
Guy proposed to Gemini within two hours of jumping off a plane from India. It was a total surprise, she says. "He'd been giving me some presents from the trip - lovely saris, Buddhist statues and then he said, 'I have one more gift for you, but first you have to answer a question?' He was already kneeling down so I didn't guess what was coming, then he proposed!" says Gemini.
They married almost a year later in Somerset with the added challenge of organising the wedding 6,000 miles away as the couple live in Los Angeles.
"I did a lot of the research for suppliers online and held Skype meetings. We made two trips to England, the first to celebrate our engagement and find the venues, the second to finalise all the arrangements and meet with suppliers, which included the caterers, photographers, hair and make-up, and so on," Gemini says. "I used to work in events so I had plenty of experience in putting together something this big and I'm an artist so the idea of designing lots of the details was exciting for me."
Guy and Gemini were married on the 4th of September, 2011 at St Mary's Church, Petherton, with a reception at Maunsel House, North Newton.

Most treatments that promise to remove body hair - such as waxing or shaving - are temporary solutions. However, laser hair removal can have permanent results in just a few sessions. The Private Clinic has teamed up with Your Bristol and Somerset Wedding to offer readers a discount on laser hair removal.
The clinic can treat fair skin through to darker skin tones, across a range of body parts such as the upper lip, chin, jaw line, underarms, legs and bikini lines, perfect for banishing unsightly hair before the big day. The Private Clinic is offering an exclusive discount of 30% off laser hair removal on all bookings made before March 31st, 2012.

| A change of style |
 |
When organising my wedding last year, I found myself watching as many bridal- themed films and programmes as I could find and Father of the Bride was one of them. It made me realise how, even though style has moved on since the early nineties, our feelings about marriage and the wedding planning process has really stayed the same. The central message of the film also rings true today: that weddings are about the whole family. It reminded me not to forget about how exciting my marriage is for both of our parents, too.
Happy planning!

How much food is too much?
Q I am planning to serve my guests canapes at 3pm and the wedding breakfast at 5:30pm, are these realistic timings? Should I also be serving food in the evening, too, since we will be at the venue until midnight?
A Caroline Gent says An hour and a half for canapes at a reception is about right. This gives the bride and groom long enough to have their photos taken and greet their guests. Any longer and people tend to get a bit fidgety. A three course meal takes a maximum of two hours so I would stick to your 5.30pm timing. The speeches normally take about half an hour, so you will still have a good amount of time for your evening reception. You will need something to feed to your guests later on, but there is no need to go overboard. A good cheese board, possibly with some salamis and pates is plenty. Some people just have bacon baps at around 10pm. A proper buffet or hog roast really isn't necessary in my opinion. People tend to do this is if they have had a small number of guests to the wedding breakfast and a huge number of late comers. |
