Capture your engagement glow with beautifully shot pictures by photographer Rebecca Portsmouth
Whether they get down on one knee, hide a diamond ring in your champagne glass or spontaneously say those four words over breakfast, the day your beloved asks "will you marry me?" is a memory to be treasured and celebrated.
There is surely no better way to capture that post-engagement glow than with a photoshoot dedicated entirely to you.
And Rebecca Portsmouth is skilled in taking those romantic pictures that perfectly displays a soon-to-be-wed couples' bond.
The Greenwich-based photographer has 10 years' experience and works with her clients to ensure the resulting prints of each shoot, be it celebrating a wedding or engagement, is individual to them. "I like to spend some time talking with couples before we start to find out what kind of pictures they want," she says. "I work with the natural beauty of the light and with couples' personalities. The wonderful thing about London is that we can go to a park they love or do the shoot somewhere more industrial.
"I took some fantastic photos of a couple in Canary Wharf recently, the architecture of this city can be an incredible backdrop. We can also meet in the daytime or evening depending on the type of look the couple want for the photos."
As well as resulting in a beautiful album, an engagement shoot prepares brides- and grooms-to-be for what to expect when it comes to their big day.
Regularly capturing engagements, weddings and christenings, Rebecca is skilled at putting new and known clients at ease. She says: "It is lovely to be there for such important events in couples' lives. Engagement shoots are so fun and it is great to work with two people who are clearly so happy and excited."

It's with great pleasure I can introduce myself as the new editor of Your London Wedding. I am truly excited about taking over such a fantastic magazine and bringing fresh inspiration as you navigate the fun journey that is wedding planning. And to really signal the start of a new era, features editor Lauren Dowey has joined the team, and is brimming with ideas to excite and inspire.
Having recently experienced the highs (and occasional lows!) of planning my own wedding, I have first hand knowledge of what it takes to organise a day filled with personal touches. I was told time and time again to take a step back and enjoy it - not just on the day itself but in the weeks and months leading up to it. You only do it once, so don't sweat the small stuff and make sure it never gets too much. And whether you're planning a decadent do dripping with detail or creating a simple but elegant affair, as long as you stay true to who you are as a couple, you will have the day of your dreams.
This issue is jam-packed with features to help you on your way. On page 85 we showcase an array of cake designs that look too good to eat, while on page 65 we take a look at statement jewellery.
Happy planing!

Bridemaids' rebellion
Q - My bridesmaids have made it very clear they want different styles of dresses. However, as I am having a traditional church wedding I want them to look exactly the same. What can I do to keep their look tidy?
Clare Ridd says: Listen to their reasons for not wanting the same style of dress. It is most likely because they are body conscious and while you want them to be uniform, uncomfortable bridesmaids will never look good.
There is no rule stating bridesmaids must be identical and if you work with your flowers, accessories and your colour scheme you can still create a look that unites them beautifully and has a traditional feel. Also, don't worry about how different dresses will effect your wedding photos. It will be colour rather than style that matters and if you work with your colour scheme, the pictures will be lovely.
However, it is important to point out you are the bride and it is your big day. If you feel very strongly about the bridesmaids being uniform, they should respect your wishes. |

Carly and Sasha Shaker said 'I do' in the history-steeped setting of Greenwich. Clever styling and delicate details made this celebration a classic affair with a vintage twist
Carly met Sasha in 2005 when they started working at the same company. The pair began as friends and their relationship remained platonic until sparks flew when they went on their first date to St Christopher's Place in central London. As Carly says: "It was a bit of a slow burner."
Fast-forward six years and the couple were on a romantic holiday in the picturesque island of St Thomas in the Carribean. As they strolled in the surf on a balmy April's evening, Sasha bravely asked a shocked Carly to marry him - and the setting couldn't have been more perfect. She says: "We were walking back to our hotel room along the beach and there was a shooting star just after Sasha popped the question - all part of the plan apparently!"
A bride-to-be with serious vision, Carly took on the task of organising their big day in just six months.

We explore some of the best-kept secrets in the east end borough when it comes to celebrating your big day
Clissold House Set in Stoke Newington's community green space Clissold Park, this venue opened at the beginning of the year and is set to become the east end's hottest new go-to for receptions. Following an extensive £8.9 million restoration, the building - constructed in the 1790s for an anti-slavery campaigner - has five function rooms and can accomodate parties of up to 60 guests. In addition to high ceilings and lush green surroundings, Clissold House's grounds are home to numerous birds and animals. The butterfly dome is a colourful delight and the terrapins are a particularly exciting sight. Grand and green, this venue is steeped in beauty, history and wildlife.
