A warm welcome
Q We are planning a winter wedding and have fallen in love with a beautiful venue. Despite the ceremony room being perfect, it only offers the option of a marquee reception. What can we do to ensure the marquee is warm and welcoming?
A Liz Taylor Says: We always encourage clients to opt for the best quality marquee they can afford as these will be able to accommodate most weather conditions.
It's also important to remember that during wet weather, water on the ground can seep through some types of cheaper flooring. So seek out a professional company to ensure you have the right type installed. By adding a coloured dancefloor and some wonderful lighting and decor, you will make the space feel warm and welcoming.
Check the marquee has built-in air conditioning and heating systems to allow you to control the temperature no matter what the weather. Finally, avoid putting tables near the entrance or kitchen doors as guests can become cold if there is a draught. |

| A time for family |
 |
Despite writing about weddings for a living, I still get excited when an invitation comes through the door, and this spring my lovely sister is due to tie the knot. From the colour scheme to the entertainment, it's been fun helping her plan all the details. I have also been surprised at the fact that, considering it is a civil partnership, they still want all of the traditional elements. They both want to wear wedding dresses, walk down the aisle, be given away and have a wedding breakfast with all the trimmings.
It has really highlighted to me the meaning of marriage; no matter who you are, saying the vows in front of family and friends means the same to everyone. You are preparing to commit your life to the person you love.
Happy planning!

Sinead and Luke had a romantic dusky pink colour scheme for their wedding at The Midland Hotel, Manchester
Sinead and Luke met by complete chance one sunny day in June, 2005. "Luke was driving down the road with his brother, Michael, who thought he knew the friend I was walking with," explains Sinead. "After they pulled over, it turns out he didn't, but we all got chatting and it went from there."
Luke popped the question two years later, on 30th November, 2007, after a romantic walk in the rain. "We had dinner at Pizza Express in Piccadilly Gardens, then we went to the cinema - which turned out to be the worst film we'd ever seen," laughs Sinead. "When we left it was pouring down with rain, but Luke had an umbrella and said it would be romantic so convinced me to walk."
"We walked past the MacDonald Hotel and as we did, Luke dragged me inside. He took me up to the top floor and left me outside the room for a while. He finally let me in and there were rose petals and candles everywhere, as well as champagne on ice. He sat me down and pulled out a box which had a beautiful ring inside and propsed!"
Sinead tells us more about their day on page 28 of the current issue. |

We have some great ideas and advice from the experts on choosing your big day entertainment
Wedding music for the ceremony The style of music chosen to play during the wedding ceremony should be an expression of the bride and groom's personal taste and wedding theme. The selected music should create an ambience in the church or ceremony room and will set the mood for the rest of the day.
For church ceremonies it is appropriate to have more traditional or religious music, couples may even choose to use the church choir and organist, while couples opting for civl ceremonies could have a solo singer or classical musician.
...And the reception For the reception there is the choice of recorded or live music such as hiring a band, solo singer or jazz group. For more formal big days, classical groups, piano soloists, and instrumentalists are more appropriate. Take in to consideration the age of your guests as your musician will need to tailor their music for the guests and atmosphere of the day.
