Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ, we're getting excited. It's not long until the launch of national Brides at Work day on 17th September, 2010 and we can't wait to take part and dress up in all manner of bridal finery. A Friday at work has never seemed so much fun and we want you to get involved too!

In association with The National Wedding Show, brides old and new from all over the UK are taking part to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, by wearing their wedding dress to work. But if you're a bride-to-be who doesn't want to unveil her gown just yet, there are other ways you can show your support. Why not simply accessorise? A veil and tiara will still make an impact.

Alternatively, rally up your colleagues and organise an office wedding party and host your very own bake sale to raise some cash. Bride at Work isn't just for past or present brides either. We want everyone to get involved! Grooms can don their suits for the day, and mums and bridesmaids can join in by wearing their favourite outfits.

We'll be showing off our pictures from the day, and we want to see yours too! So show some support for a great charity and send in your photos to daniellew@countyweddingmagazines.com and we could print them in a future issue of the magazine with your name and company details. Then and now
My parents recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Keen to snoop into their life in 1959 BC (Before Children) I got out their album and scrutinised the pictures. Other than my nana's hat making me smile,
What I did notice was that the style of my mum's wedding dress didn't look as dated as my cousin's '90s get-up in the photo sitting on my parents' bookshelf. Out of this observation came a feature idea, and on page 30 we take a look at weddings over the past 50 years.

Back to the present, our modern day readers can take inspiration from our latest jam-packed magazine. This issue we're getting back to basics as Lisa Morgan takes a look at the practicalities of getting wed - a must-read for anyone with a new ring on their fourth finger.

Happy reading

Banking on love

Christopher Hinchcliffe, 30, and Rebecca Green, 25, tied the knot at Ivy Manchester Church, Didsbury, followed by a reception at Davenport Green Hall, Hale Barns, on 2nd May, 2009.

With many people spending more time at work than socialising, it's fast becoming the place to meet that special someone. This is the start to Chris and Rebecca's real wedding story as the couple met while at a Barclays Bank function. Rebecca says: "Chris and I met occasionally at various events for Barclays, and then he became the manager of the branch I was working at. It was not love at first sight, actually I thought he was a bit arrogant! He was offered a promotion at the Stockport branch and he asked if I could transfer, our friendship soon blossomed into a relationship and the rest is history."

There was no need to spend hours looking for a venue as Rebecca and Chris fell in love with the first one they saw. "We saw Davenport Green Hall online and thought it would be out of our price range, but when we told our parents about it they offered to help us with the reception costs," says Rebecca. "The venue was a Tudor style black and white building surrounded by beautiful grounds, which included a pond."

"I was very nervous before the wedding," says Rebecca. "I stayed at my mum and dad's, while Chris stayed at our house with the best man and one of the ushers." For the ceremony, which was the couple's favourite part of the day, Rebecca's grandad gave a reading and her mum also said a prayer. Rebecca adds: "Our friend and her band provided the music for the hymns and Helen another friend played her violin while we signed the register."

Lighter-than-air fabrics, delicate detailing and billowing volume. Perfect dresses for summer weddings.

In the warmer months shorter and lighter gowns are by far the easiest and most comfortable choices. But that's not to say brides who have been dreaming of wearing a princess-style gown, can't. Volume is back this season, but rather than heavy satin and enormous petticoats, brides should be opting for softer materials like chiffon, tulle and organza. "We're seeing lighter, flowing gowns that have movement and an air of casual elegance," says bridalwear designer Claire Pettibone. "This season's designs are reflecting a more relaxed and intimate style of wedding. Soft mermaid silhouettes and sheathing fabrics are both popular." The Greek goddess look is also a chic choice for summer, so choose dresses made from sumptuous slipper satin for a luxurious feel. Or for something with a bit of an edge, why not show off some leg with a shorter style?

For more tips on finding the perfect summer gown, see pages 48-51 of the current issue.

A Trash the Dress photo shoot is a great opportunity for brides who want to make the most of wearing their wedding gown again. The session is fun and creative, and will give couples some fantastic pictures to take home as a reminder of their Trash the Dress session.

Martin Gilsenan of Dobège Photography says: "Actually it's not about destroying or trashing the dress, it is all about creating some wonderful fashion-style images of the bride in her wedding gown.

"Normally as wedding photographers, we are restricted by time and the fact that the bride wants to do everything to keep her dress immaculate. Now we have a real alternative, where we go out on location, perhaps to the beach or woodland, with the bride and groom to take some interesting shots before the dress gets cleaned and boxed."
